Born Lucky: The Evolution Video!
September 15, 2009
(Sep. 9, 2009) — In homage to their nine grape blend Evolution, Sokol Blosser Winery is releasing their 13th annual bottling on September 9, 2009 (9/9/09). The wine, affectionately known as the release somewhere between the 12th & 14th edition, has officially been named the Lucky Edition, rather than the 13th.
Even before cavemen discovered fire, people have believed in a myriad of good luck charms— be it a horseshoe, a four leaf clover or fingers crossed. On the flipside, there has also been belief in things that bring bad luck— a broken mirror that brings seven years of bad luck or stepping on a crack and breaking your mother’s back.
So when it came time to transition from the 12th edition Evolution to the next, 13 wasn’t an option. “We felt that 13, with its historical negative connotation, wasn’t the right vibe for Evolution,” said Alison Sokol Blosser, Co-President of Sokol Blosser Winery. “Today many tall buildings skip the 13th floor, hotels often don’t have a room numbered thirteen, and thirteen loaves of bread are called a baker’s dozen.”
With over 40 white varietals to choose from, nine different grapes made the luck of the draw for Evolution’s unique blend: Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau, White Riesling, Semillon, Muscat Canelli, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, and Sylvaner. The Lucky Edition is inviting with aromas of jasmine, orange blossoms, complex spices and tropical fruit followed by an array of pear, peach, lychee, and honey flavors. A complementary pairing to foods such as Thai, Indian, Mexican and Caribbean, this wine is just as delicious served on its own.
Each rendition of Evolution has its own subtle and fresh personality, and annual production has grown every year since its introduction. So for the Sokol Blosser family and their team, Evolution was the polar opposite of the number 13, the harbinger of misfortune, as this special blend brings good luck to all who drink it.
In celebration of Evolution, Lucky Edition, Sokol Blosser Winery is taking to the streets and the internet highway to learn about luck and lucky charms. Send an email to sokolblosser@sokolblosser.com and submit in 40 words or less on what brings you luck. If you’re lucky, you could win an Evolution jungle hat (while supplies last). Sokol Blosser Winery Announces Evolutionwine.com
May 27, 2009
DUNDEE, OR –May 18, 2009—Where else can you go to have a monkey tell your fortune? Sokol Blosser Winery is announcing the launch of a new website, Evolutionwine.com, for its innovative white wine blend, Evolution®.
Themed around how to enjoy Evolution wine during each season, the website was designed by Sandstrom Partners and built by 500lb, both of Portland, Oregon. The new site also features striking non-conventional artwork from Crush Design of Brighton, England, that highlights entertaining in each season. It includes seasonal party tips, quirky fortunes told by a monkey hidden in each page and custom recipes such as Salmon Steaks with Spicy Paprika Rub and Cajun Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya. Although the new website is designed to be lighthearted and fun, the focus on functionality was not overlooked.
“Our new Evolution website really shows off the ‘world’ of Evolution wine,” said Alex Sokol Blosser, second generation winegrower and Co-President of Sokol Blosser Winery with his sister, Alison. “We really wanted the artwork and design to show what a fun, food friendly, all-occasion wine that Evolution is, while also giving the user a unique experience and making it easy to find information about the wine. Consumers can also easily share their own Evolution stories!”
Evolution, Sokol Blosser’s off-dry negociant blend of nine different white varietals,
is now in its 12th Edition and the 13th Edition, to be called the Lucky Edition to avoid any unlucky associations with the number 13, will be released on July 1, 2009. Producing a proprietary blend like Evolution takes a combination of art and science in order to make the grapes come together and create a flavor greater than the sum of its parts. Sokol Blosser’s winemaker, Russ Rosner, said, "In over twenty years of winemaking this is by far the hardest wine I've had to make. It's like mixing nine different colors of paint and trying to end up with a rainbow instead of a muddy brown.”
The Evolution website release comes on the tails of another one of Sokol Blosser’s artistically driven websites, Meditrinawine.com, which features Meditrina, the winery’s other negociant blend of Pinot Noir, Syrah and Zinfandel. To learn more, please visit:
